Well, I've bashed one group of teachers. I suppose slamming some more can't hurt. Aurora, Colorado high school geography teacher Jay Bennish is on "temporary administrative leave" which is a way of saying he is being paid for not teaching geography. But that's not unusual since he was placed in this position because he was caught on tape not teaching geography.
You know geography, don't you? It is the study of the Earth and its characteristics including, I'll allow for a moment, human beings and their effects on the planet. Geography sees itself as far more than mere place names and I guess I'd have to agree. There are geographical features which impact on the institutions of mankind. But these are not capitalism vs. socialism, communism vs. democracy, United States vs. the world.
Unfortunately for the students in Jay Bennish's classes, the teacher does not understand this. He is a rabid anti-democracy, anti-capitalism, anti-US political philosopher. He was caught on tape ranting pro-Communist, anti-capitalism, anti-Bush, anti-Israel propaganda. But as his Superintendent noted, "Our policy calls for both sides to be present, in the interest of intellectual discourse. People in life make mistakes occasionally. We address them. We learn from them."
