Global Warming And Hurricanes .... Again

Reuters News Service (Free Registration Required) reports that the coming hurricane season is likely to renew the global warming debate. In a separate report, Reuters notes that hurricanes are likely to be more numerous and more intense this year than average years. The Reuters article points out that there is some debate between experts about the impact of global warming on hurricanes but they fail to point out the depth of expert opinion which is against the notion that global warming increases the number or severity of tropical cyclones. In fact this year's dire predictions rest upon the theory that ocean salinity has a greater impact. This is the theory of most American hurricane experts including Chris Landsea, the climatologist who quit the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) because they used his name to further the fallacy that global warming causes storm numbers and intensity to increase. Landsea believes global warming actually has the reverse impact - it lowers the number and severity.

Regardless of truth, we are likely to hear many newscasts which claim that global warming is finally going to cost Americans money. Nonsense!

  • you're RIGHT! we're not doing enough to CAUSE global warming.

What exactly are you arguing is the better scenario?

  • I'm not arguing for a better scenario.   I'm arguing against global warming paranoia.   I'm arguing that the news media is disseminating false information.   Global warming, if it is happening, if it is perchance man-made, is not responsible for increased numbers or severity of hurricanes.   Unfortunately, many of those made hysterical by all the hype will tend to freak out every time a hurricane arises.   They'll want to react to a destructive hurricane by placing caps on emmissions.   My point is, that is rubbish.
