The devices can also be linked to financial information such as credit card numbers and buying habits, which is why a nightclub in Glasgow, Scotland, recently began offering to implant its patrons with the chips. The club, called Bar Soba, said the chips let customers leave their wallets at home and count on their favorite drink being ready as soon as they walk through the door and get scanned.Whoa! So what these chips do is allow people to become lazy, such that they no longer need to carry their wallets. But what about driver's licenses and social security cards? CNET goes on to report that the real bonus with having people implanted with RFID chips is for emergency care purposes:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared VeriChip for medical use in October. The company is targeting patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other conditions requiring complex treatment.I bring this up because I used to handle accounts receivables for some hospitals. I can't begin to tell you how many people come into the emergency room without identification and financial information. One hospital I worked at had to shut down its emergency room because it lost so much money from treating patients with no identification on them.
Harvard's Halamka, a practicing emergency room physician, said the chips may also be useful for speeding care in emergency situations in which patients are often unconscious or nonresponsive. The technology could also help prevent errors in treating and administering medication to patients, he said.
I'm not so sure this is going to happen or, alternatively, happen real soon. A lot has yet to be discussed and who knows where that will lead us. Also, note that these chips do not have tracking capability - the FBI is not going to be able to triangulate and find you in the woods so they can arrest you. If you were to try to board a plane, you might pop up on somebody's computer screen. But these do not have the kind of GPS capability a person might think they do. If you have your dog or child chipped, you won't be able to find him or her unless he or she happens to be taken to a veterinarian.
On the other hand, I can visualize Governor Arnold removing something from his nose in one of his movies. I suppose somebody better get busy making the device he used.

I can see it now. The smart criminal will buy a black market chip reader, then scan the crowd and know your SSN# bankacct#'s address and everything else about you, and poof! you life is liquidated in a couple weeks. I'm middle aged but I feel for our children who will live in a lockdown society where your every move is monitored. Doesn't sound like freedom to me.

VeriChip is focused on developing its FDA-approved human-implantable RFID chip, particularly in the health-care market, where it's used to link patients to their electronic medical records. More on location tracking technology here: http://indoorLBS.com

I'm not sure what I think about carryng my personal information or tracking a pedophile, but what could this do to kidnapping? If your child was implanted with a device, there would be no need for an amber alert because you would know where to find your child immediately. I mean come on, if you are worried about losing your pet so much that you pay for a chip, wouldn't you want to know how to recover a child. There are so many stories about blackmarkets for children, as a mother of three I am consantly worried that someone is going to snatch them. If having to have this procedure done would mean peace of mind for me as a parent then I say why not? I am sure one of the problems would be making the whole thing hacker safe.

No, that's not how they work. This is not a GPS device which broadcasts your whereabouts. Justr like with pets, the only way they would be readable is to basically swipe the chip with a reader. You couldn't track a person with something like this. You'd need to broadcast and that takes a fairly large battery.

IN RESPONS TO THE COMMENT ABOUT KIDNAPPING.
No it would not stop kidnapping but it will put your child in more danger. The smart kidnapper would cut off the affected limb or just carve out the chip. Your childs' life would be in greater danger of being killed because the kidnapper would be in greater danger of being caught.
RFID is a very bad idea.
Personally I can see a revolution in this country.
You get chipped you will loose all your freedoms. You will be finished as an independant living organism with a choice. Life will not be up to you anymore, govi-corp will own you and every move you make.
It's fowl and disgusting and a bane to human exsistence.

If this is true you may want to read the bible in the end of time the antichrist will want to control everyone and this is the way they will do it you will not be able to work, buy, live without this chip this is called the mark of the beast and it will not save you, you are forever satans children. Do not ever think that it wont happen cause it will maybe not in your life time but in our childrens life who knows. God is coming soon so be ready for him he loves you and this is his way of telling you to not give in to what the government wants to do to you have faith and belive in him and you will be saved.I know it sounds like a story but the bible tell it all.

This NEEDS to happen ASAP. With growing numbers of little children being sexually abused by shitbags on the news and in school this NEEDS to be done. More than 80,000 reports of sexual abuse in children only get reported each year. Think of all that is NOT getting reported. This would help protect our children. Sometimes I think we are beyond education as bad as that sounds due to the fact that our society is becoming another Sodom and Gommorah in many aspects.....Our children need this chip!!!! Help protect them and tell everything to scream in Congress's ear to push for it.

Absolutely this chip must be insterted in every new born starting now! As far as privacy the chip would be removed at the age of eighteen. Also in response to putting your child in more danger because the kidnapper would cut off their limb?? come on! It's so small it would leave no mark. The common scum pedophile or lowlife kidnapper would not have the equipment to detect such a device. Having a child kidnapped is every parents worst nightmare and it can be stopped.-- Anonymous

Just to speak from personal experience, I currently have an AVID Verichip injected into my back (http://www.avidmicrochip.com ). My girlfriend bought one of the 5-packs and we registered ourselves as ficticious animals just for novilty sake. Yes, the needle is huge, but suprisingly it wasn't all that painfull. My reasons for it are mostly personal, although I will say I love the idea of being chipped as something other than huamn. Moreover, there is a lot of ridiculous fear-factor propaganda going around about RFID technology. I've worked in government IT security for over 10 years and I can tell you the chips information cannot be written to or modified. The only information on it is a hard-coded serial number. No SSN, address, credit info...nothing. Just a number that, at best, resolves to a database elsewhere with extermly limited access. Hence, in an RFID culture no one would be simply walking around with an antenna, sucking up everyones personal info directly from the chip. Theres nothing there to steal! So snatching your wallet and credit cards the old fasioned is still far more effective.

Has anyone stopped for a second, and wondered just who is pushing the micro chip. Are Americans that afraid that they must be chipped now. There is something seriously wrong with our government, over the past decade they have taken more, and more freedoms away. I have listened to the government say free trade is good, and watched most of our jobs move overseas. Now there saying the micro chip is the way, and it will benefit us all. If Americans don't wake up and smell the coffee soon, every aspect of your life will be controlled and monitored by a government that is suppose to represent the people. On a side note, it very well may be what is foretold in revelations. The day they make a law we must all be chipped, is the day everyone should fear. Cause that day will be the last day of being a free individual, and quit possibly the day we all lose our souls.

I truly believe that these chips will cause more harm than good. They have already been in instances where they are incompatable with MRI scans and cause burns. Also, someone who purchases a scanner can easily read all of your medical history in a matter of seconds. I am 16 years old, and I would not want this chip put in my body. It ultimately takes away a person's privacy and freedom.
